Runnin' Tings

...to get moderately fit.

Back in running business.

Power Song: Wiley - Treddin' on Thin Ice
Feeling: headache

Another day, another 5k. Well, to be honest it's been a few days since
I ran last time. Today was harsh; not only was the day "Do The Right
Thing" hot, but I suspect that me not being used to yet to the new
season hadn't drank enough water so I had a horrible headache. I did
have to walk for some time, but I made it. These are the make it or
break times if you excuse the cliche. I will make it.

What can I say.

Power song: Klashnekoff - My Life
Feeling:
Ready to go

Earlier this week, was it on Monday, I had another run for 5 km and today I did the same. These posts start repeating themselves at this point; maybe I should go and cahnge the route... or get lost, I don't know. I did fall today which wasn't very nice, but still, hardly a talking point. Rain also gave few extra points for conditions, but all in all, good run. Bit by bit I am getting to be a runner I guess. Just have to keep it up.

Friend of ours and a fellow runner (who probably convinced us to start) Tanja has also started her running blog so go and see if she has something more exciting to say: )

This wind

By Mikko

Power song: Fattaru - Första Femman
Feeling: pure happiness

I've spent long hours on the computer this week so today when I got to
go for a run, it was just what I needed. It felt great. I did the
usual five km and while the sun was already bearable, the wind was
harsh. For the first time actually the wind was far too strong even
when it was behind me. On my way to the turning point which is near
the castle and after the Good Hope Center when I'm entering the
District 6 area, or Zonnebloem, the town opens in an amazing way. I
feel it's mine, but today I was running there faster than ever as the
wind was forcing me forward. All I could think was that on my way back
it's gonna punch me right into my chin to stop me just before starting
to push me backwards. Well, it wasn't quite that dramatic, but it was
strong. But after a small bit of walking I just collected all my will
power and did the rest of the way. I had made a new playlist so it was
a fresh pleasure in that sense. Too bad that the sounds of wind
covered most of the music as well.

The second time this week

By Mikko

Power song: Dizzee Rascal - I Luv U
Feeling: withdrawals

Only the second time this week, it felt good to get out there and do
away with extra energy. Today was a perfect weather for a five km run.
It was not too hot or even too windy. Try to get one more run tomorrow
so I'll reach my minimum goal 3 per week. I'm sure I can manage.

The summer really kicked in today

By Mikko

Power song: Dizzee Rascal - Fix Up! Look Sharp!
Feeling: I knew it's gonna be tough in that heat

Today's 5 km really made me work for it. The sun was burning, but I
got the better of it as I ran armed only with my determination and a
bottle of water. I'm very glad, as always, that I did go. This running
thing awards me everytime with sense of achievement and general great
feeling. Surely anything that does that is worth it.

Sunday run

By Mikko

Power song: Hilltop Hoods - What a Great Night.
Feeling: extremely confident outside of the context of running

Having had few days since my run, it was good to get out there again
today. Did my five and a bit in a deadly mixture of hard wind and hot
sun. Had to walk a bit when the wind was too much, but still, I'm
happy I went. Feels very good.

Back at it

by Mikko

Power Song: Driemanskap - Camagu (with a brand new video uploaded today.. see it here)
Feeling: alrite

I did the same run again than the other day. Today I also measured it. It's just over five kilometres. A nice run, with less uphills. I think I might keep on doing that. But now I've got to run... metaphorically only.

New route

By Mikko

Power song: Asa - Helsinki Suomi Prkl.
Feeling: decent

Not sure how much I ran today as I was completely on a new route. But
however lot or little it was, it was at times pretty good going. I
went all the way to the castle which starts to be in the city center.
Or near enough at least. Interesting to see how much that's in an
actual physical distance. Nice thing is that it was less of an uphill
so it was all in all more enjoyable. Will continue that way I'm sure.

Runnin after all

by Mikko

Power song: Asa - Ikkunapaikka
Feeling: Unsure about it all.. very windy today and the wind is a problem

Today I woke up as the wind was actually howling outside. Cape Town at best, or is it worst, can be incredibly windy; more than I could ever explain with words if you haven't experienced it yourself. At least more than anyone where I come from knows. In that wind you run your hardest pretty much to stand still and that's no fun. But nonetheless I decided to go and aimed to find a route where the wind wouldn't terrorise my exercise as much. I ended up running far and wide. Longer than ever before (during this time around of running) which I am very proud of. I'll have a look later with a car how much are we actually talking about. So I'll add that a little later as soon as my other half comes from her jog... is this what we have become as people - yes, seems to be the answer to that. But It's probably for the better that we talk about it in this blog because one reads these voluntarily instead of us forcing them down on people's throats on places where they cannot escape. Everyone wins. Isn't that great. That being said, running as a hobby is quite interesting. Runners are happy to talk about it when an occasion arises, but I've never met anyone to force feed their personal fitness anecdotes. Maybe there is an unwritten etiquette or something.

UPDATE: Shame man, it was less than 5km.. just. Felt so much longer. But I did find some new routes so in future I'll hit the 6..7..8km mark and then 10. Shouln't get ahead of myself.

Afternoon run

by Mikko

Power song: Dizzee Rascal - Fix Up! Look Sharp!
Feeling:
Determined as ever

So.. I thought that after yesterday's succesful 5,5k I'll be doing something similar today but clearly the elements had a different idea. Running was okay for a bit, but the wind was too much. And when I say too much it was way too much. Running uphill, but having the wind against you blowing your hat off isn't what I consider encouraging. So I decided that since I am a confident person, I do not have to prove a point today (I leavfe it for other days), and did three kilometres and came home. Still, at least something. One can't always add mileage. Running home was lovely... wind on my back pushing me downhill; this way I could have run forever... well, realistically no, but you know what I mean. It was the excact opposite of that today that kept my run short.
